What is an Easy Installation Sports Floor?

Easy to Install Sports Flooring

Easy Installation

There is often a debate about what type of flooring is easy to install. Floating, glued down, nailed down, poured, etc. The opinion on what is an easy installation is often a reflection of what the installer prefers. However, there are some generally recognized ideas about this. For the most part, the flooring with the least amount of components, is the easiest to install. However, they can also be the ones easiest to install incorrectly.

We have tagged multiple easy installation floor systems on this site as “Easy to install”. They will display the icon above. For the most part, these will be the fastest to install, saving money on labor costs.

What is a Reduced Vibration Sports Floor?

Blue circle icon with a frequency graph indicating a reduced vibration floor.

Reduced Vibration Sports Floor

Vibrations are everywhere. Sometimes they are a good thing like in a musical instrument, but often they are unwanted and cause problems.

High performance sports flooring is designed to give back some of the energy an athlete puts into it. When an athlete jumps, they press downward on the floor. The floor is deflected or compressed under this force. As the force the athlete applies peaks and then begins to reduce, the floor begins to decompress or deflect upward. This process gives back some of the energy the athlete used to deflect the floor. This is the quality we refer to as a floor’s resilience. The same process takes place to a lesser degree when a basketball is dribbled.

Vibration is the uncontrolled compression and decompression of the floor. Every resilient floor has a frequency at which it rings (vibrates). A reduced vibration floor is designed to minimize this ringing while still returning the most amount of energy possible.

Horner Sports Flooring’s ultra high performance Zenith system uses a two stage resilience design to provide a low vibration, high energy return system.

What is an Economical Sports Floor?

Blue circle icon with three dollars signs and the left one in green indicating an economically priced floor

Economical Sports Floor

Economical sports floor from Horner Sports FlooringSports flooring is expensive. It is an investment. We recognize that not every customer has a budget to get the best possible floor system. We also recognize that not every customer needs the best possible floor system. So it is vitally important to understand what makes one floor more expensive than another.

Unless you are purchasing a ProKing® portable basketball floor, your new floor will essentially be assembled on site. Components will be delivered and skilled craftsmen will install the floor. Depending on the floor you choose, the number and type of components will vary. This affects the manufacturing costs and may impact shipping costs. This will also affect the time and cost to install the floor. More advanced and complicated floors take longer to install. Economical sports floors from Horner Sports Flooring provide safe, durable surfaces for competition.

Some floor systems, in order to meet specific standards (DIN, EN, PUR, etc.), have undergone rigorous testing and certification. This adds cost. Or, the floor system my be designed with specific enhancements like high load bearing, high air flow, etc. These also add cost.

But lets make one thing clear, Horner Sports Flooring does not sell floor systems that are “good enough”. Every economical sports floor sold by Horner Sports Floor is the best in its price point. The maple on top of an economical sports floor is the same as that found on our high performance Zenith systems. Aesthetically, they are identical. As for performance, they are all designed to exceed customer expectations.

What is Rebound Technology Flooring?

Blue circle icon with a circle and curved lines indicating a floor with rebound technology.

Rebound Technology

Rebound Technology refers to how well a ball bounces from the floor. Devices are used to drop the ball from a predetermined height and measure the time between the first impact and second impact. Once this time has been determined the bounce height can be mathematically determined. This height divided by the initial drop height gives a percentage rebound. All other conditions are carefully controlled, such as ball pressure.

Rebound Technology is a fundamental data point in most performance certifications.

What is Performance Standard Certified Flooring?

Performance Standard Certified Flooring

Certified Performance Flooring - Wake Forest basketball arena looking from seats at one end

Performance certified flooring has undergone rigorous testing by one or more third-party labs. Often architects will require these certifications in their specifications for flooring. This ensures a base level of performance for the floor. Flooring that is not certified, is not defective or substandard, it simply means it has not been tested. All Horner Sports Flooring provides a high level of performance. If it didn’t, we wouldn’t continue to manufacture and offer it to our customers.
