An EcoTrack System from Horner provides years of high performance no-hassle outdoor sports track with uniform thickness that comes in a variety of colors. High pressure construction allows for extreme longevity with a proven history in areas where freezing and thawing cycles are common place.

PART 1-GENERAL

1.1 DESCRIPTION

  1. This document specifies the complete installation of sheet rubber track product designed for multiple sport use, as formulated by Horner Flooring Company.
  2. Related work specified under other sections.
    1. SUBSTRATE BUILDUP
      1. Asphalt or concrete for outdoor installations.
    2. CONCRETE SLAB
      1. The general contractor shall furnish and install the concrete substrate, depressing the slab sufficiently to accommodate the specified thickness of the EcoTrack material. The slab shall be steel troweled and finished smooth to a tolerance of 1/8" (3mm) in any 10' (3m) radius. High spots shall be ground level, and low spots filled in with approved leveling compound. No concrete curing or hardening agents shall be applied to concrete slab.

1.2 QUALITY ASSURANCE

  1. Manufacturer Qualifications:
    1. Manufacturer of rubber track shall be a firm specializing in manufacturing products specified in this section. Manufacturer must be in the sports surfaces business a minimum of 10 years.
  2. Installer Qualifications:
    1. The complete installation of the track system, as described in the scope of these specifications, shall be carried out by an experienced installer (Track Contractor), and the work shall be performed in accordance with most recent installation instructions of the manufacturer.
    2. Track contractor shall be factory-approved, trained, and have completed at least five (5) projects of similar magnitude and complexity.
    3. Submit three (3) copies of supplier’s recommendations for the correct preparation, finishing and testing of concrete.
  3. Pre-Installation Meetings:
    1. Conduct pre-installation meeting to verify project requirements, substrate conditions, manufacturer’s instructions, and manufacturer’s warranty requirements.

1.3 SUBMITTALS

  1. Specifications - Submit Horner specification sheets.
  2. Samples - Submit color, texture, thickness, or finish samples of the specified system as needed and requested by the customer or architect.
  3. Maintenance Literature – Upon completion of track installation, send to owner, attendants, or individuals in charge and responsible for the upkeep of the facility a copy of the EcoTrack Maintenaance Instructions. These instructions shall be followed. Any variations, deviations, or substitutions shall be submitted to Horner for approval.
  4. Submit a copy of the completion certificate earned from the Horner Installation Workshop.

1.4 DELIVERY AND STORAGE

  1. Comply with manufacturer’s ordering instructions and lead time requirements to avoid unnecessary storage and construction delays.
  2. Delivery of materials shall not be delivered until the site and climate are ready for installation.
  3. The general contractor shall provide a secure, clean, dry location for storage of materials at a temperature range of 50°F (10°C) to 85°F (30°C).
    1. Outdoor Storage
      1. If materials are to be stored outside, they must be fully protected from moisture by a covering with 10 mil polyethylene film and a tarpaulin.
      2. All materials stored outside shall be inspected by the installer/dealer for moisture contamination before installation.

1.5 WARRANTY

  1. Horner Flooring Company hereby warrants the ECOTRACK SYSTEM materials to be free from manufacturing defects for a period of one year from the date of substantial completion of the track.

1.6 WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. Synthetic materials specified herein shall not be installed until concrete has been cured for sixty (60) days and the following conditions are obtained.
    1. Slope of substrate shall be approximately 2% towards the drainage system.
    2. Slab thickness shall be 4” (102mm) for concrete or 5” (127mm) of compacted asphalt performed in two (2) lifts
      1. Use finer grained granulate for asphalt mix.
  2. Moisture content of the concrete slab must not exceed 5 pounds per 1,000 square feet (1kg per 41m2).
  3. Environmental Limitations
    1. Comply with requirements of athletic track material supplier.
    2. Adhere to all MSDS requirements for materials employed in the work. Protect all persons from exposure to hazardous materials.
  4. After the track is installed and the game lines have been painted, the area is to be kept out of use to allow curing time for system. No other trades or personnel are allowed on the track until accepted by the owner in writing.

PART 2-PRODUCTS

2.1 MATERIALS

  1. Track shall be homogeneous, non-layered rubber product consisting of recycled rubber tires held together with a urethane binder. Tracking shall be factory made and not a field manufactured product.
    1. Track materials shall be a uniform thickness throughout.
      1. Thickness shall be 10mm.

        OPTION: Thickness may be 12mm.

    2. Track materials shall be rubber roll goods.
      1. Width shall be 36" (91cm).

        OPTION: Width may be 42" (107cm) or 48" (122cm).

      2. Length shall be approximately 50' (15m). Total roll length may consist of multiple pieces.
  2. Typical physical properties of standard EcoTrack
    1. Physical properties are:
      1. density : 0.75 g/cm3 (ASTM D297)
      2. tensile : 116 psi minimum (ASTM D412, Die C)
      3. elongation : 74% minimum (ASTM D 412, Die C)
      4. compression (ASTM F 36)

      10. Material has a 2 year shelf life from date of manufacture when protected from environmental extremes
      11. Values shown represent current production and may vary in the future or under different conditions
    2. Performance properties are:
      1. 12mm system to achieve 37% minimum shock absorption
      2. 10mm system to achieve 27% minimum shock absorption
  3. EcoTrack adhesive, a one (1) component urethane adhesive, shall be approved by manufacturer, no substitutions. Use of non-approved adhesive shall void warranty.
  4. Game line paint shall be recommended by Horner and compatible with the rubber sports track.

PART 3-EXECUTION

3.1 INSPECTION

  1. Surface Inspection
    1. Refer to specific Horner substrate specifications.
    2. The existing system shall be inspected with the owner to determine if repairs are needed. The installer shall perform tests for moisture and adhesion prior to application.
      1. Report adverse conditions to the owner or his/her representative in writing.
      2. Report any discrepancies or repairs needed to the general contractor.
  2. Installer shall document all working conditions provided in general specifications prior to commencement.

3.2 INSTALLATION

  1. Rubber track
    1. Unroll rubber track and allow to relax before cutting and fitting.
    2. Thoroughly mix the urethane adhesive according to manufacturer. Apply directly to the concrete substrate with a notched trowel per manufacturer’s instructions.
    3. Install rubber track into freshly applied adhesive. Roll the entire track with a medium sized roller to remove trapped air. Remove any adhesive that oozes between seams with wood alcohol. Allow adhesive to cure before proceeding.
  2. Game line painting shall be in accordance with manufacturer's current procedures, using approved materials.
  3. Leave a border of 12” (305mm) on the inside and outside of the track from the outermost line markings.
  4. Remove all excess and waste materials from the area of work. Dispose of empty containers in accordance with federal and local statutes.

3.3 PROTECTION

  1. No traffic or other trades shall be allowed on the surface for a period of one week following installation to allow for complete cure of the finish.
  2. No smoking, open flames, or sparks from electrical equipment or other sources shall be permitted during application of materials

3.4 MAINTENANCE

  1. Upon completion of floor installation, the owner, attendants, or individuals in charge of and responsible for the upkeep of the facility are to see that the EcoTrack maintenance instructions are followed and that a copy of the completion certificate earned from the Horner Installation Workshop has been submitted. Any variations, deviations, or substitutions shall be submitted to Horner for approval.
